Taking Our Music to the World: An Aotearoa Music Showcase

On March 7th, we hosted Taking Our Music To The World: An Aotearoa Showcase for the 2024 PANNZ Arts Market. Local and international arts festival buyers were welcomed to Q Theatre to watch performances from our korokoro tui: IA, Theia x TE KAAHU and Tami Neilson.

Moetu Smith (Ngāti Māhanga, Ngāti Maniapoto) and Reti Hedley (Tūwharetoa, Ngāti Rāhiri) kicked off the night with a stunning performance that was authentically IA, fusing sounds of taonga pūoro and new indigenous soul.

Following IA was a showcase of duality: Theia x TE KAAHU (Waikato-Tainui). Marrying two polarising musical psyches, TE KAAHU played tender alt-folk, paired beautifully with kupu Māori, her native tongue, then Theia performed her alternative indie-pop/rock.

A week out from her US trip to play alongside Willie Nelson at Luck Reunion, Tami Neilson closed off the night with her signature power-house songs. The multi-award-winning artist performed a short set of country and rockabilly soul with a standing ovation to see out the evening.
