The JuiceTV SKYCITY NZ Record for Music Month!
11 May 2009
Pencil May 24 in your diaries as Juice TV and SKYCITY are inviting Aucklanders to jump on the band wagon and strum along to an old Kiwi favourite, Why Does Love Do This To Me, in an attempt to form New Zealand’s (NZ) biggest band and make history.
Aucklanders are invited to gather at SKYCITY in central Auckland at 11am, bring their guitars and their best singing voices and join in with Jordan to set a new record and an annual tradition for NZ Music Month.
Daniel Wrightson, Managing Director of Juice TV, concocted the event in commemoration of NZ artist Jordan Luck, lead singer of The Exponents. “Celebrating the genius of Jordan Luck with NZ musicians and fans is a great honour. ‘Why does love’ is an iconic slice of our musical heritage, and being brilliantly written, with just three chords, even I can play it. Nice one Jordan!”
Luck shares Wrightson’s enthusiasm "I'm really excited to be involved with the world record attempt. It's a great way of making people aware of how important music is and I’m looking forward to everyone's support on the day. I’m already getting all my friends and family to start practising and urge New Zealanders to do the same!"
Luck, the man of the moment (or 3 minutes and 22 seconds to be precise) will be Juice TV’s celebrated musician this May, with his songs also being covered by Kiwi artists at the ‘Juice TV Live @ SKYCITY’ concert May 27. In addition to conducting the anthem on the day, he will also perform a free concert along with supporting acts.
Telecom, Auckland City Council and Music Works are also standing proudly behind NZ musicians, all doing their part to ensure this NZ Music Month record is given a rightful kiwi go! All punters need to do is register at: www.nzguitarrecord.co.nz and they will be ready to rock and roll up on the day.
To heighten excitement and boost confidence for everyone to partake, Juice TV will track NZ celebrities and follow their progress on learning the song. Lessons are underway and can be seen on Juice TV from May 9th and also available on www.juicetv.com.
The growing list so far the list includes Rog from the Rock’s morning rumble, Bridget Saunders (Sunday Star Times), Brooke Howard-Smith (Target, TV3), James Somerset (Crowd Goes Wild), Dennis Katsanos (Sky Sport), Marina Erakovich (Tennis Star).
The Guinness World Record for the largest guitar ensemble involved 1,802 participants who played 'Smoke on the Water' simultaneously in Germany in 2007. This was taken out in Poland last year where 1951 guitarists gathered to play Hendrix classic ‘Hey Joe’. This year the Pol’s have smoked their own poles literally smashing this into the 6’000 days out from the NZ event.
The call is out for all New Zealanders to join the band outside SKY CITY,and have the best guitarfest ever!
This guitar ensemble is one of many special events JuiceTV has going for NZ’s Music Month, so stay tuned…
Ends.
