Thought Creature.......

Thought Creature are a three piece outfit from Wellington, New Zealand. Since their conception five years ago the band have clocked up a constant mass of live shows throughout Australasia, bringing their psychedelic dance rock’n’roll to the indie dance floor underground. These boys have not only head lined numerous tours in New Zealand, but supported esteemed acts such as Yeasayer, Die! Die! Die!, Explosions in the Sky, Trans Am, So So Modern, Cut Off Your Hands and I Heart Hiroshima, among others. Their 2008 release Teleport Palace was crowned album of the year on the Einstein Music Journal and number four in Real Groove Magazines top 50 albums of the year.

The name 'Thought Creature' has become synomonous with the good vibrations of dance floor, bass heavy, washed out garage pop. An amalgam of 60s sensibilities, eighty's postpunk rhythm and 90s sonic noise. An invocation of energy, groove and reverberation. As one critic exclaimed "Thought Creature are the trip. They make the swing swing and the bass stampede, you can’t mess with a band that lays things down so simple yet remain undefinable. Lookout! They will make you dance."

Thought Creature are Will Rattray (guitar/vocals), Danny Brady (bass) and Peter Copeland (drums). One reviewer describes the relationship between them as "Cavernously portentous and also curiously soft, singer/guitarist Will Rattray’s vocals recall those of Bauhaus’ Peter Murphy, as does some of the guitar work – that kind’ve arid psychedelia also found in the early Cure, with sporadic buzzes that remind you of a web-transfixed fly. Danny Brady provides both Hook-y New Order basslines as well as knowing when to tone (or tune) it down a notch; Peter Copeland nimbly switches between acoustic and electronic drums (v.non-cliched used of the electronic clap) – imagine Superpitcher remixing the Cramps."

The band released their debut album Teleport Palace to New Zealand audiences in June 2008. Recorded in the studios and dives of their home town Wellington, the band worked with producer and musician Bevan Smith (Signer, Aspen) in a collaboration that proved productive and unique. Teleport Palace has seen wide spread acclaim throughout New Zealands broadcast and print media. Teleport Palace held the title of 'Album of the Week' with three major New Zealand stations: Bfm, Kiwi fm and R1, with multiple singles (One Day I Turned into A Spider, Favourite New Machine and Words Cant Save You) jumping around the top ten charts for over Six months. Real Groove magazine gave the album five stars proclaiming “Thought Creature’s debut album Teleport Palace is the BEE’S KNEES and almost certainly NZ’s best guitar pop album since the Mint Chick’s Crazy? Yes! Dumb? No!...an addictive gem brimming with great songs and new ideas, fantastic sounds and brilliant lyrics.”

Thought Creature stand up in the press as an undefinable sound, with a sonic puppeteering stage presence. Real Groove Magazine state "they’re a swamp-brewed beast...using sheer force of will to forge antithetical elements into music both headily psychedelic and supremely danceable."

With the release of their first video ‘Your Telepathy’ by mastermind director Simon Ward the boys hit the road once more.

2009 will see the band broadening their southern horizons and heading off shore for shows in both Australia, the U.S and Europe.
