A night of exceptional musical talent showcased in Gore!
20 May 2009
Organisers’ of the MLT Songwriting Awards are adamant you will be hard pressed to find a more acclaimed lineup of artists, than what is on offer at this years Songwriting Awards evening.
The judging to find the top ten took place six weeks ago and it is time for some very talented artist’s to perform their music, giving audiences a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in a night of entertainment from some of the country’s best up and coming singer/songwriters.
Tami Neilson was born and raised in Canada to a musical family. At the tender age of twelve she toured with her parents and siblings throughout the country performing in concerts at Country Music Halls, sharing the stage with the likes of Johnny Cash and Loretta Lynn. Her music buzzes with raw energy and talent, a hybrid of big-voice torch and stripped bare, indie folk/ alt-country. From haunting ballads of heartbreak and irony to foot-stomping, hand-clapping, harmony-infused numbers, her live performance is one to be remembered!
Andrea Cruickshank’s voice sends ripples up and down your spine. This incredible Singer/Songwriter – Recording Artist, Musician and Producer is the whole package. Talented, Passionate and Versatile, she can “belt out a crooning “Cry Me a River” or U2’s “Pride”. She plays haunting piano and raunchy acoustic guitar.
Libby Hamilton was born in Alexandra, Central Otago New Zealand. Libby pursued her love of music and the arts throughout her school days before moving to Dunedin to study for a Bachelor of Music Degree with Honours at Otago University. A trained classical pianist and vocalist, Libby thrived in Dunedin’s diverse original music scene and has been involved in a number of bands including “Muel” who provided the soundtrack for the 2007 television series “Scarfie Days”. Her musical versatility and ability to quickly establish a rapport with any audience combined with her unique style of interpretation and performance has been enthusiastically received by audiences.
Bernie McKone, chairman of the Songwriting Trust, explains “this key awards night is recognised within New Zealand’s music industry as a significant platform where artist’s can have there songwriting and musical talents recognised and it is momentous for Gore to stage these awards! Major players within the music industry will descend on Gore for not only the seminar, which takes place earlier in the day at the Scenic Circle Croydon Lodge but they are here for the evening awards performances as well.
This is a must attend event, for anyone who loves listening to and enjoying great music. For all those people who enjoy the outstanding music on offer at the Moonshiners Festival, well the MLT Songwriting Awards is the second bite of the cherry, where people can come – have a great night out with friends and have a few drinks to set you in the mood for an enjoyable night of entertainment.”
