NZ MUSIC MONTH HIGHLIGHTS MAY 29TH

We’re heading into the last few days of NZ Music Month now, but that’s no excuse to suddenly slacken off… Come on, rub the sleep out of your eyes, find those earplugs one more time, and get out and about to some of the great shows that are happening around the country over the next few days.

There's our gig guide of course, but here are a few more ideas too:

Tonight

Chartfest 2009 takes place at the Christchurch Town Hall with a career and industry expo, music performance clinics, industry expert panel discussions, back stage tours, music gaming zone and much more. Performers include Solaa, Shocking Pinks, Nathan King, Clap Clap Riot, Beneath The Silence, The Eastern, Lindon Puffin & The Transgressions, Ragamuffin Children, The Harbour Sessions, Truth, Maitreya, Isaac Chambers, Reality Chant Sound, and Rare Shot Blue.

The NZ Symphony Orchestra’s annual Made in New Zealand concert which features Landfall in Unknown Seas (a poem by New Zealand poet Allen Curnow set to music by Composer Douglas Lilburn and narrated by Bill Manhire) is at the Wellington Town Hall.

Night two of 95bFM’s Fancy New Band at the Kings Arms Tavern in Auckland boasts a lineup including Family Cactus, Piece War, Popstrangers, Teacups, The Early Birds, Computers Want Me Dead, Jr Kong, and Kidz In Space.

Don McGlashan, one of the composers featured in Auckland’s Sonic Museum programme plays the Toto Montecristo Room with his band the Seven Sisters and support from Reb Fountain.

Saturday

Samuel Flynn Scott and the B.O.P. play the Raumati South Memorial Hall with Shayn ‘Hurricane’ Wills.

Hikoikoi's Album Release Tour touches down at Napier’s Cabana Bar.

The soothing sounds of metal permeate the Hamilton Library with daytime performances by Chuganaut and Red Dynasty.

Lisa Crawley plays an instore at Auckland’s Real Groovy at 4pm.

Later that evening in Auckland is the launch of the Cheese On Toast Singles Club at Bacco Room with live performances by Tourettes and The Drab Doo Riffs and a split seven inch on offer featuring both bands.

Sunday

Te Papa’s Marae is the setting for a live performance by Jhan Lindsay at 1pm.
