MYSPACE.COM CELEBRATES NZ MUSIC MONTH

7 April 2009

To celebrate NZ Music Month, MySpace.com will witness a NZ Music takeover on both the Kiwi Hub [www.myspace.com/kiwihub] and the MySpace Music Channel [http://music.myspace.com]. MySpace will also deliver users two FREE MySpace Secret shows with NZ’s premiere Kiwi acts; award winning singer/songwriter Boh Runga and local Indie Rock outfit Midnight Youth.

Over the course of NZ Music Month, the Kiwi Hub will be programmed by some of NZ’s top musicians including; Savage, The Mint Chicks, Ladyhawke and Bang! Bang! Eche! Each week, one of these Kiwi artists will tell New Zealander’s who inspires them, who they are currently listening to and what to watch out for next. Kiwi Hub will also be featuring giveaways from top NZ artists, and MySpace users will be able to vote on their favourite NZ songs and videos.

Not limiting the celebration to online, MySpace takes NZ Music Month offline, with two free MySpace Secret Shows. The first with Boh Runga in Auckland, on the Eve of New Zealand Music Month on 30th April, and the second in Wellington on May 15th with Midnight Youth.

Home to over 20,000 Kiwi bands, MySpace is the world’s leading platform to showcase artists’ work and connect with fans. As Susan Carlton, Head of Sales and Business Development, MySpace.com New Zealand explains; “MySpace is delighted to be supporting NZ Music Month, as music forms a cornerstone of the MySpace business. Home to millions of artists, with around 30 million people accessing the Music Channel globally each month, MySpace Music is the most popular music community in the world. Bringing together the greatest collection of artist profiles, tour dates, artist blogs, music videos, and artist photos in the world, MySpace Music supports millions of major, indie, and unsigned artists via their music profiles and interaction with the MySpace community.”

Since 2007 MySpace has organised ‘Secret Show’ events throughout New Zealand which allow MySpace users to go to free yet intimate gigs featuring local acts such as Coco Solid, Cut off Your Hands, Collapsing Cities, Evermore, Fur Patrol, Nesian Mystik, Die! Die! Die!, Savage and The Checks.

To find out more details about these free shows MySpace users should head to [www.myspace.com/secretshowsnz] and add themselves as a ‘friend’.
