The NZ indie band, the Mint Chicks asked their fans to get involved, get exposure and get creative. Using the promotional platform MusicHy.pe <http://musichy.us1.list-manage.com/track/click?u=286786aad4fa373196abb39c4&id=7e4223a081&e=d9fb09a1e6> , the Mint Chicks asked their peers to crowd source a video for their hit single “Bad Buzz” and a new official Mint Chicks T-shirt.
Debbie Poe, and her crew, who all graduated from South Seas Film & Television school last year, took home the grand prize, with the title of official music video for the hit single “Bad Buzz” <http://musichy.us1.list-manage.com/track/click?u=286786aad4fa373196abb39c4&id=4818729971&e=d9fb09a1e6> . Debbie and her team made it to the top three videos, voted up the charts by MusicHy.pe members, which made it a tough choice for Mint Chicks Ruban and Kody Nielson to pick the grand prize winner.
“ Deb Po's video was chosen for its way of capturing something about the song that the other videos couldn't quite get. In a way it seemed to reflect the meaning of the song in a very strange way and when I watched it for the first time I had a feeling it was going to be hard to beat it for that reason,” says Ruban Nielson.
The South Seas Film & Television school graduates were inspired to get involved right away. “We're all fans of the Mint Chicks and thought it would be an awesome opportunity to show our support, have a bit of fun and hopefully be responsible for their official video clip,” says Debbie Poe.
The winning team have their 'Bad Buzz” video aired exclusively and promoted on MTV NZ this week, followed by feature placement on major music channels around the world. Bonnie Wroe, a second year Fine Arts student at Whanganui UCOL, took home the Mint Chicks T-shirt grand prize <http://musichy.us1.list-manage.com/track/click?u=286786aad4fa373196abb39c4&id=de04b68560&e=d9fb09a1e6> . In some ways the competition was even harder to judge with 17 high quality t-shirt designs in the running.
“The t-shirt winner was another tough competition. The three that made it to the top were all favourites but it's crazy how many great designs were bubbling under the top three...in the end Bonnie Wroe's tiger design seemed to be the obvious winner. I suppose you could say Kody is somewhat obsessed with tigers and I'm a big fan of hand drawn artwork,” says Ruban Nielson.
Bonnie couldn't wait to get painting. “I am a huge fan of the Mint Chicks. I have followed their music and artwork for years so thought it would be an amazing opportunity to have a painting of mine on their shirts!” says Bonnie Wroe.
The winning tiger t-shirt is for sale in the MusicHy.pe shop <http://musichy.us1.list-manage.com/track/click?u=286786aad4fa373196abb39c4&id=523b3c2478&e=d9fb09a1e6> and will be produced by the Closet.co.nz <http://musichy.us1.list-manage.com/track/click?u=286786aad4fa373196abb39c4&id=aa21a40bd5&e=d9fb09a1e6> . Bonnie also gets a cut of the sales and global exposure with her design and her name.
The Mint Chicks couldn't be happier. “There were some amazing things submitted to both the video and the t-shirt competitions and we can't really express how much we appreciate the time, effort and resources everyone put into their entries except to say that we wish we could afford to have more winners,” says Ruban Nielson.
