Urenui Taste of Music - Lunchtime Series: Classical guitar duet Dominique Blatti and Paul Goodsell

Classical guitar duet Dominique Blatti and Paul Goodsell will be playing music and songs from South America and Europe. The pair, both members of the Classical Guitar Society of New Plymouth, will also add their own voices into the mix at times. Dominique is a full-time classical guitar teacher who conducts a classical guitar orchestra and performs regularly with Ross Townsend in their duet called Guitarra. Inglewood Taste of Music - Lunchtime Series: Country blues musician Rachel Dawick

Rachel Dawick has been described as “a young, big-voiced country blues performer with Bessie Smith on her mind”. This Kiwi musician has an MA in songwriting from Bath Spa University in England and this year releases her third solo album. She has performed at venues around the world, including the 2009 Edinburgh Fringe Festival where she released her second album Ed’s Bar and Grill. Proudly supported by MusicWorks in New Plymouth.

 

Waitara Taste of Music - Lunchtime Series: Waitara High School bands Faithless Fairytale and Dub T Souljahhz

Faithless Fairytale are Sam Parli, Shae Trowson, Toban Sutton and Adele Parli. These Waitara High School students have been making pop-rock music together for nearly three years and hope to continue in the music industry after leaving school. The girls sing a mixture of original compositions and cover songs. They entered the Smoke free Rockquest for the first time last year and will be entering again this year. Dub T Souljahhz are Waitara High School students Kale Simpson, Te Riaki Nicoll, Cairo Ahu and Anton Lilly. They play reggae and RnB, covering other bands as well as writing their own music. This year they are looking at entering the Pacifica Beats competition in Wellington this year and all have aspirations to work in the music industry. Oakura Taste of Music - Lunchtime Series: Singer-songwriter Jae'l Warbrick

Marfell singer-songwriter Jae'l Warbrick has been singing as long as she can remember and started playing guitar at age 15. In February, the 22-year-old opened for Stan Walker at his sold-out concert in New Plymouth. She performs a mixture of folk, soul and religious music and says she’s fan of Frank Sinatra, Brooke Fraser, Ellie Goulding and Israel Houghton. Proudly supported by MusicWorks in New Plymouth.

 

Puke Ariki Taste of Music - Lunchtime Series: Pianist Cameron Curd

Pianist Cameron Curd will be singing songs and playing themes from beloved films from throughout the history of cinema. The New Plymouth man began learning the piano at age six and has since clocked up thousands of piano performances, numerous competitions, master classes and choral accompaniments. He is an active member of the New Plymouth Operatic Society, teaches piano to adults and is working towards his A.T.C.L. piano performance with Trinity Guildhall in London.  There’s also a film score and album on the horizon. Bell Block Taste of Music - Lunchtime Series: NPGHS Harmony Singers and soloist Grace Monk

Date: Mon 02 May 2011 to Fri 06 May 2011, Friday 6 May, 12.30pm to 1.5pm
Venue: Bell Block Library & Service Centre


The Harmony Singers will be singing in a barbershop-style chorus with a four-part harmony. These New Plymouth Girls’ High School students will sing both a cappella and with piano accompaniment.  Directed by Mary Williams, the teenagers are working towards performing at the Waikato Young People in Harmony competition in June. Soloist Grace Monk is a talented performer and composer. The NPGHS Year 12 student will play original compositions on guitar and piano. Proudly supported by MusicWorks in New Plymouth.

 

Music Month song-writing workshop with Rachel Dawick
