New Zealand Music Month, May 2010

Waikato Museum exhibitions inspire performances for NZ Music Month

9 April 2010

Visual art will be the inspiration for a number of musical performances at Waikato Museum in May as part of NZ Music Month.

Musicians from throughout Waikato and Auckland have been invited to take part in two performances at the museum on 14 May and 21 May, with the aim of highlighting the creative drive behind music and showcasing visual and performing arts together in one unique setting.

Amongst the bands performing will be Sora Shima, Anariama, ZIONHILL, Dylan Storey, The Shrugs, Zeb Davies, Der Kranks and RaizaBiza.

Waikato Museum programmes/education leader Sarah Oliver said the initiative will “bring an eclectic mix of music to the museum’s fabulous art galleries”.

“This event will celebrate NZ Music Month, provide an alternative venue for live music and highlight the creative drive of our own musicians alongside that of New Zealand visual artists,” she said.

Supported by Hamilton Live Music Trust and Creative Communities New Zealand Scheme, the performances are free to attend however numbers are limited, therefore it is recommended that people arrive early on the night.  Doors open at 7.30pm, with the gigs starting at 8pm.
