Wayne Mason brings his special band to Putaruru on the 14th of May, at the Plaza Theatre to celebrate NZ Music Month. Special because it is a chance to reunite the talents of Ross Burge on drums, and Clinton Brown on bass. And special also as Wayne’s brother Paul, a well known Putaruru musician, will be guesting on vocals
Wayne, Clinton, and Ross first played together on Sharon O’Neill's single ‘Words’ in 1979 and then on the following album containing the hit ‘Asian Paradise’.
In the early eighties Ross and Wayne played in an alt pop rock trio with Jonathon Crayford on bass, called ‘Two Armed Men’.
Ross went on to play with many well known NZ bands such as The Spines, Sneaky Feelings, Midge Marsden and finally the Mutton Birds with Don McGlashan. It was here they covered Wayne's song ‘Nature’ which was instrumental in launching The Muttonbirds in NZ.
Wayne, Ross and Clinton reunited in 1994 to record Wayne’s first solo CD ‘Between Frames’, which was released in 1995.
It is a rare treat to have this group of talented musicians performing together in Putaruru. Be sure not to miss this opportunity to catch them playing.
