Fat Freddy's Drop: Based On A True Story 21st Anniversary Tour

Doing it for the love of music, legendary band Fat Freddy's Drop returns to the stage in 2026 to perform their ground-breaking debut album Based On A True Story.

Fat Freddy’s Drop will embark on a 51-date tour across Australia, Aotearoa, Europe, and the UK — their first since the passing of founding member Chris ‘MU’ Faiumu. The band remains committed to continuing the long-planned tour, with lead singer Dallas Tamaira sharing that performing the album live is a way to honour their original intentions with MU.

Their acclaimed album Based On A True Story, released independently in 2005, features ten tracks of genre-blending future funk. It holds the record as Aotearoa’s longest-charting album with 111 weeks in the Top 40, earned eight New Zealand Music Awards, and won Giles Peterson’s Worldwide Music Award in the UK.
