Anthonie Tonnon releases new single, 'Lockheed Bomber,’ tour with full live band begins next week.

Anthonie Tonnon has released the closing track, ‘Lockheed Bomber’ from his third album, Leave Love Out Of This. The song is the ninth and final track on the album, but until now, has only been available on the Deluxe LP and CD versions, or as a bonus digital download. The song is now available to stream at Tonnon’s website and bandcamp, and will be available on his upcoming tour as a standalone 7” record.

‘Lockheed Bomber’ was written with co-producerJonathan Pearce, and is based on the Canberra air disaster of 1940. Tonnon says the song “started as a finger picking pattern so complicated I needed Jonathan’s help to do the musical maths. It turned into a really dramatic band-led epic, and it’s one of the songs we’re most excited about performing as a band.”

After postponements due to Covid-19, Tonnon is finally embarking on an album release tour that expands his onstage line-up to a full live band for the first time since 2018. The band features Stuart Harwood on hybrid electric/acoustic drums, David Flyger on bass guitar/synthesised bass, Brooke Singer (French for Rabbits) on synthesisers and samples, and Sam Taylor (Nadia Reid) on electric guitars and percussion.

Some of my all-time favourite records have been Taite finalists and winners, and I'm very humbled to be nominated alongside this years' brilliant finalists."

The album has also seen Tonnon nominated as a finalist for the APRA Silver Scrolls and the Aotearoa Music Awards, and reached #2 in the NZ Top 20 albums chart. It also garnered critical praise from the likes of The New Zealand Listener, RNZ’s The Sampler, Sunday Star Times, Paste Magazine and RRR Melbourne.

Leave Love Out Of This is the first release on Slow Time Records (UK/EU/NZ) not by the label’s founder, acclaimed Dunedin-born songwriter and performer Nadia Reid. It is available on vinyl, CD, and as a green vinyl Deluxe Edition LP, with the bonus 7” record of ‘Lockheed Bomber’.
