Kiwi blues artist Al Young has played all over NZ, in Australia and the US, but he’s never done a solo gig in the town he’s called home for nine years.
Now Young is bringing his brand of blues to Warkworth’s Tahi Bar on May 11, from 4pm to 6pm.
“The opportunity hadn’t come up before so it’ll be great to finally play a solo show at the Tahi.”
He is also a member of the long-running Railway Pie band, which played to a packed Tahi Bar in March and will return to the venue on July 13.
Young discovered blues as a teenager and has been playing it ever since, both acoustically as a folk performer and in electric bands.
“At my Tahi Bar gig it’ll be blues the way it used to be. It’s an ageless sound – some of the songs are close to 100 years old and they still sound just as good today as they did back when they were new
