New Zealand Youth Choir is Aotearoa's top national choir for 18- to 25-year-old singers. The Choir will be touring Singapore, Denmark, England and Wales in July this year, and will be competing in two international competitions: the European Choir Games in Denmark, and the Llangollen International Eisteddfod in Wales.
Tō Mātou Haerenga | Our Journey is a concert series by the Auckland members of the NZ Youth Choir. We invite the audience to experience our European journey with us as we sing a selection of music from a variety of genres that closely follows our European tour destinations.
On this journey, we explore the Scandinavian territory with works from Hugo Alfvén and Ola Gjeilo. With Michael McGlynn and Marek Raczynski, the audience will be transported further into Europe. On our journey, we do not forget about home — waiata Pasifika and waiata Māori both traditional and contemporary remind us of our roots. The concert also features pieces composed and arranged by two members of the choir, Takerei Komene and Robin Park. Finally, a surprise feature from Darius Lim reflects our excitement about stopping over in Singapore.
This is the second of two concerts held at Takapuna Normal Intermediate School on Sunday 11 May, from 7 pm to 9 pm. The concert series is a fundraising event for the NZ Youth Choir's European tour. Ticket proceeds will go directly to our equity-based hardship fund to ensure no singer is left behind.
