When ‘Lydia’ hit the airwaves, everything changed. The story behind one of the biggest Kiwi hits of the early millennium, Fur Patrol‘s singer/songwriter Julia Deans insists, is simple. “It was written in the space of 10 minutes, it just sort of fell into existence.”
Gabe McDonnell says of Deans, “She shows her skill as a writer by approaching an old story of love fading away as a voyeur, observing the old lover and his new date with the lightest of sneers. The chorus lifts up and reveals the hurt, as great love songs do.”

And fans of Julia Deans can catch her this Thursday May 8th in Wellington, and Friday May 9th in Auckland, as part of the Atomic 2.0 show.
She joins singers Boh Runga (stellar*), Dianne Swann (When the Cats Away), Vera Ellen and Jazmine Mary, backed by an unstoppable all-female band featuring Karen Hu (drums), Rebel Reid (guitar), Mareea Paterson (bass), and Ladyhawke’s Ilayda Tunali (keys).
