Claudia Robin Gunn Announces Wholesome New Kids' EP Helpful

If you’ve ever wished someone would write more songs about rainbow-filled lunchboxes, the excellent reverb qualities of bathrooms, and the magic of saying “please,” well Claudia Robin Gunn has got you (and your little ones) covered.

The Auckland-based folk-pop artist and all-round musical ray of sunshine is back for NZ Music Month with Helpful, an EP packed with catchy tunes and kind-hearted messages that’ll make both kids and grownups want to pitch in, tidy up, and maybe even dance while they’re at it.

“This EP is about the tiny ways families can show up for each other, and themselves—things like using our manners, helping out at home, eating our colours,” she says. “Being helpful doesn’t have to be boring—it can be fun, colourful, healthy, and a value we are proud to live by. It’s about showing kids that they’re powerful and important in shaping the world around them. And also that simple daily routines like singing in the bath can contribute to our own wellbeing, whether we are a small human or a grown up”

Claudia’s got a talented team on board, with long-time collaborator Tom Fox producing the EP, plus extra musical magic from Marshall Smith. The project is supported by NZ On Air’s Tamariki New Music Kids Project initiative, with bright studio visuals created by artist Evie Kemp and a series of music videos shot by filmmaker Michelle Sokolich.

The EP lands on all platforms May 30th, bundled with singalong karaoke versions for your next family jam session.

Claudia makes music for kind kids and their grownups. With an Aotearoa Music Award under her belt (2024 Best Children’s Music Artist) and songs spinning on kids’ radio around the world, she’s on a mission to make everyday life a little more tuneful and a lot more joyful, with a deeply held belief that even the smallest people can do big things.

Claudia says "I have always lived a musical life; mum sang in a band, and my dad loved to spin records while he built our house. I love writing music for my family and other families who appreciate smiles, silliness, being kind to nature and each other. Getting to now pass that love onto a new generation is the best job in the world"
