Following their Taite Music Prize Auckland Live Best Independent Debut finalist EP Flowers Dream, Low-Key EP continues the theme of creating sonic dreamscapes implementing guzheng (a traditional chinese stringed instrument), soft ethereal vocals, lyrics in mandarin and english, while also explores different tones and textures of guzheng, which was made possible by combining two different home-engineered electric guzheng.
Influenced by Mindy Wang and Saya Gray, Low-Key EP is an exploration of the dynamics between ancient and modern instruments and a genre-blending art-pop experimentation. The tracks are unexpected, sometimes ambient, sometimes dream-pop, sometimes psychedelic, but all have experimental elements and all bring unique originalities to the audience.
Low-Key EP was recorded in Maxwell and Huiming’s home studio, Hokima Dihar Studio, featuring Huiming on guzheng and vocals, Maxwell on drums, keys, guitar, bass, guzheng and backing vocals. Same as their debut EP, Lowkey EP was produced and mixed by Maxwell and mastered by Josh Llewellyn at Downbeat Mastering.
