Indie-pop artist kloey has spent the summer refining her sound, and following the success of her debut single 'Black Cat', she’s back with her empowering new track 'On Her Own' - an energetic pop anthem guaranteed to lift your spirits this Autumn.

Blending synth-pop with electronic and acoustic textures, 'On Her Own' tells a story of growth, freedom, and self-worth after leaving a toxic relationship.

“I wanted to focus on the empowering, cool side of walking away—not the heartbreak,” says kloey.

The song started as a simple two-chord progression in her bedroom, inspired by a friend’s breakup. After sharing it with producer Kahu Sanson-Burnett, the track evolved with playful synths, video game-inspired melodies, vintage sound effects, distorted guitars, and acoustic layers. A heartfelt voice sample from her best friend Lucy Milligan adds a personal, intimate touch to the bridge.

Written to uplift and inspire, 'On Her Own' is a celebration of choosing yourself and finding strength in standing alone.

kloey (Kloey Shaw) is a rising indie-pop artist based in Pōneke, New Zealand. Originally from sunny Whakatū, her sound blends heartfelt, introspective lyrics with a unique mix of folk and alternative indie-pop—creating music that feels both intimate and expansive.

Kloey’s musical journey began at age 7, writing songs with her childhood best friend. By 9, she was performing original music at school talent shows, sparking her lifelong love for songwriting. During high school, she took piano and vocal lessons and played in the band The Batteries, who placed 2nd in the Nelson RockQuest Regional Finals. She also participated in the 2022 “Commotion” workshop, where she performed alongside Joel Shabolt of L.A.B. and Parallel Park.

Now in her third year of a Bachelor’s in Commercial Music Practice, Kloey is the lead singer of indie pop-rock band College Try, who’ve headlined multiple gigs and gained significant attention. She launched her solo project ‘kloey’ with the debut single 'Black Cat' in late 2024. Leading up to the release, she performed acoustic performances at Hamodava Café, Massey University, and a collaboration with rapper Quest at Valhalla. With new music on the way—produced by Kahu Sanson-Burnett—and hopes of exciting live shows on the horizon, kloey is an artist to watch.
