In true Kiwi fashion, this band of four engineering students and one film student first crossed paths at a University of Auckland O-Week street party, bonding over a shared passion for music and performance.
Coppelia are a collective with a love for creating music and sharing it with the world. What started as backyard concerts at house parties has evolved into a high-energy live act, with a packed single release show as headliners at Double Whammy.
Now, they’re celebrating the release of their back-to-back debut singles, ‘Forget It’ and ‘Manasoul’. Think alternative rock with a Kiwi twist, Coppelia’s sound is the ultimate New Zealand summer soundtrack.
Listen to ‘Manasoul’ here, and ‘Forget It’ here.
The band’s name is a nod to guitarist Jack Towers’ hometown roots in Tauranga, drawing inspiration from Coppelia Avenue, a street that evokes memories of a simple upbringing and that warm, yellow-sky summer feeling.
Their latest track, ‘Manasoul’, was born during a jam session when, as the band puts it, “Whenever we needed to lift the energy, the boys would yell, ‘Add a bit of mana!’” That energy found its way into the music and the name. “We hope the Manasoul instrumental rushes straight through your bloodstream and into your brain.”
Fans can expect more track releases from the band in the near future, as they gear up to record and release a full slate of original material throughout the remainder of 2025. The band remains driven by performance and has plans in the longer term to take their music to audiences far and wide. Keep an eye out for upcoming announcements and as they share their story to the stage.
