This is a premier opportunity for aspiring musicians aged 14-21 to learn from Aotearoa's best.
The impressive tutor roster heading to Nelson/Whakatū includes soul powerhouse Deva Mahal, L.A.B.'s frontman Joel Shadbolt, music legend Laughton Kora, Drum & Bass icon MC Tali, electronic pioneer Paddy Free (Pitch Black), pop sensation Paige, "Rap Scientist" Mazbou Q, Bella Bavin (Coast Arcade), and producers Emily C. Browning and Christian Tjandrawinata, with more local talent to join them.
COMMOTION provides a unique platform for young people to dive deep into contemporary music, covering songwriting, performance, music production, and invaluable insights into navigating the music industry.
"We are absolutely thrilled with the calibre of artists who are joining us for COMMOTION 2025," says Emily Sanson, co-organiser of COMMOTION. "Their passion for music and willingness to share their incredible knowledge and experience is what makes this event so special. It’s a game-changer for young musicians to get this kind of insider knowledge and mentorship."
Scott Burnett, fellow co-organiser, adds, "COMMOTION is more than just workshops; it's about building a supportive community, fostering creative self-expression in a safe and inclusive space, and illuminating diverse pathways within music. We’ve seen past attendees go on to release their own music and perform at major events, and we can’t wait to see what talent emerges this year."
Since its inception, COMMOTION has had a significant impact, with an impressive number of alumni students releasing music on streaming platforms and performing at various festivals and events.
With limited spots available, young musicians are encouraged to register quickly.
