The Award-Winning Lou’ana Celebrates Feminine Power and Freedom with New Single ‘Disco Coven’

Aotearoa’s very own queen of blues, funk, soul and disco, Lou’ana, is ramping up to the release of an exciting musical project and has today dropped her latest single, ‘Disco Coven’.

Disco Coven’ is a nu-disco pop banger celebrating joy, freedom and connection. With touches of Dua Lipa energy and a nod to Chic in the groove, it was the last song Lou’ana wrote for her upcoming album, DISCO WITCH, which she’ll deliver in two parts - Side A and Side B - the latter of which will be out on Saturday June 21 (on the winter solstice, darkest day of the year to line up with the darker side of the record).

“‘Disco Coven’ came through quickly like a download, I was very much in writing season, and being the last song of the record, I was in flow, wrote the lyrics, melody and shaped the vibe, then worked with Nathan Judd (producer/arranger), Dillon Rhodes, and Dixon Nacey to carve out harmony and arrangement ideas,” says Lou’ana.

“We tracked it live with a fierce band: Nick Jones (strings), Windon Bradfield (guitar), Dan Waterson (drums), Dillon Rhodes (keys), and Nathan on bass, synths, and arrangement. It’s a lush, groovy piece of nu-disco magic drawn from the shadow side of Disco Witch.”

The song comes with a visualiser, which captures the vibe of ‘Disco Coven’. Watch the visualiser HERE.

“It draws on the energy of Aphrodite and Hekate, who were the muses for this album,” explains Lou’ana. “The fire in the video represents internal alchemy, that transformation we go through when we reclaim our power. It’s mystical but grounded, echoing the song’s blend of dancefloor freedom and deeper symbolism.”

Known for her unique and captivating voice, Lou’ana draws inspiration from the infectious sounds of American blues, funk, soul and disco. She infuses these nostalgic grooves with her own unique spirit and personal narratives.

Lou’ana’s upcoming sophomore album follows on from her debut full-length record MOONLIGHT MADNESS, which contained the hits ‘Move Along’ and ‘Feel This’ and earned her the award for ‘Best Pacific Female Artist’ at the 2021 Pacific Music Awards. The album also reached #18 on the NZ Top 20 Album Charts.

A mesmerising performer, Lou’ana has performed at many of the country’s largest festivals, including Nostalgia, Newtown Festival, NZ Spirit Festival, CubaDupa, Splore and Nest Fest. She recently toured Australia and has also opened for international names such as Gladys Knight and Teddy Swims.
