The Dawks Announce Leading Single 'I Can Do Anything' Out May 14th

The Dawks are a zkrut band from Kirikiriroa/Hamilton, the sclerotic heart of Aotearoa/New Zealand.

Zkrut is directly adjacent to punk. Their original music is a mix of high-energy dance songs, a couple of more introspective numbers and a large dollop of righteous left-wing political fury. The band members are all of a 50 year+ vintage - Michael Switzer (bass, vox), Bevan Thomas (guitar, vox), Wayne Barnett (drums, vox), Phil Dean (guitar, vox) - and aim to bring back the slightly raucous anti-corporate, do-it-yourself spirit of the 1970s punk scene… combined with sensible bedtimes. They are the only band in the world to have written a decent song (‘Flat Out Bat’) based on a pair of ordinary underpants from The Warehouse.

After completing their debut 5-song EP in 2023, The Dawks went back into Bagnall Hill studios in 2024  and recorded another 11 songs with Scott Newth (The Datsuns) in the engineer's seat. The resulting album (Casualties) will be released towards the end of 2025 on all platforms and real, physical media in the form of a CD…..vinyl too if there is enough interest.

To celebrate NZ Music Month, they are releasing the first single from the album, ‘I Can Do Anything’, on May 14th!
