While in the process of producing her first album, Anna McKean, a singer-songwriter currently based in the Otago hills, is releasing an acoustic version of what’s to come in the form of single ‘Never Loved Me (Stripped)’.
’Never Loved Me (Stripped)’ will be released at midnight on 29 May and will be available everywhere you stream and buy music with pre-save available now on Spotify, i-Tunes and Apple Music.
‘Never Loved Me (Stripped)’ was recorded and produced by Blake Corbett and written and performed by Anna McKean.
Anna felt this was the exact right way to bring her music into the public space, as a person that enjoys the stripped back, slow country life, a country song sitting in her ‘to be recorded’ pile felt like the perfect place to start.
“The song always felt like my first release and I’m so excited to give you the stripped back version that bares that bit of soul I love so much to receive from other indie artists. The song itself is a retrospective love song - the idea you can feel equally haunted by something (romantically) but still be so willing to do it over again knowing the outcome, was something I felt pulled to explore. Some things are worth the heartache and I wanted to touch on that relationship that’s always sort of there.”
Anna’s music plays within an indie/country-pop space but is inspired by elements of Jazz, having majored in Jazz Vocals at Te Koki NZSM. Writing songs from the age of ten, and performing them from the age of twelve Anna feels her upcoming releases are the prefect expression of herself through sound, emphasising storytelling through lyric and melodic movement and cannot wait to share these with the rest of the Aotearoa music community.
