Cassie Henderson releases her new single 'It’s a Wonder' today across all streaming platforms - a soaring pop-rock anthem about growing up and the strange miracle of just making it through.
A conversation with her younger self, the track reflects on the pressure, nostalgia and growing pains of modern adulthood, exploding into something triumphant. At its core, 'It’s a Wonder' asks a deceptively simple question: what would your younger self think if they saw you now?
Driven by live drums, stacked piano and guitars, and soaring saxophone solos, 'It’s a Wonder' leans into widescreen indie-pop and heartland rock influences - urgent, cinematic and built for screaming back at the sky. Produced by long-time collaborator Joe Faris (Ezra Vine, Daily J), who also helmed Henderson’s record-breaking single 'Seconds to Midnight (11:59pm)', and mastered by Randy Merrill (Taylor Swift, Coldplay).
The single serves as the closing statement - for now - to The Chronicles of a Heart Broken, Henderson’s colour-coded, multi-year project exploring heartbreak, chaos, healing, and self-discovery across both her Pink Chapter and Yellow Chapter EPs.
Henderson says, “The Chronicles of a Heart Broken started as an idea I had over a beer at a pub with no real expectation that it would become anything beyond a handful of songs I needed to get out of my system. Now I stand on stage and see people dressed in pink and yellow screaming these lyrics back at me. This project is as much theirs as it is mine. So I promise we’ll finish it together”
'It’s a Wonder' follows Henderson’s independently created footnotes EP - a raw, self-made project released on Christmas Day featuring songs written, recorded, produced and creatively directed entirely by the artist herself. But after completing her latest single, Henderson realised she had reached a natural stopping point within The Chronicles universe - at least for now.
“After the footnotes EP, I thought I had emptied the tank creatively for a while. Then 'It’s a Wonder' happened, and it encapsulated everything I had been trying to say. I realised I didn’t need to force a whole Blue Chapter project right now just because that was the original plan.”
“I know how much people care about this world and these songs. So to me, this isn’t the end of the Blue Chapter - it’s the first glimpse into it.”
Later this month, Henderson will relocate to the UK for an intensive collaborative songwriting period as she begins work on a new body of material.
The release lands just days before Henderson performs at a sold out Once In A Lifetime - the inaugural concert at Christchurch’s new Te Kaha stadium - following her first headline run, The Lightning and the Stars Tour. The independent artist arrives at the release following a breakout 18 months, including the finals of The Voice Australia, performances alongside Alex Warren, Lauren Spencer Smith and Melanie C, and winning Best Pop Artist at the 2025 Aotearoa Music Awards.
It follows Henderson’s two consecutive New Zealand radio records: singles 'Whatever' and 'Seconds to Midnight (11:59pm)' which became the country’s longest-running #1’s by a New Zealand female artist since Lorde in 2017.
