Ruby Kush Music presents Rebecca Robin NZ Music Month Showcase at The Wunderbar

Ōtautahi artist Rebecca Robin takes the stage at The Wunderbar this New Zealand Music Month for an intimate live showcase, performing songs from her catalogue alongside new and unreleased material on Thursday 28 May.

The evening will feature music from her EP Stardust, the live debut of two unreleased collaborations born from her mentorships with Greg Haver and Henare Kaa, and her new single ‘Christchurch East, We Rise’ — offering audiences an early look at the next chapter of her music ahead of her forthcoming album, Around the Earthquake.

‘Christchurch East, We Rise’ was written during Rebecca's advocacy campaign against the Bromley Wastewater Treatment Plant, giving voice to the east Christchurch community at the centre of that fight.

The showcase marks a significant milestone in the development of Rebecca's upcoming eight-track bilingual album, Around the Earthquake — an ambitious project tracing a personal and collective journey through the Ōtautahi earthquakes. The event also serves as a fundraiser for the album's next phase, as Rebecca prepares to launch crowdfunding campaigns for recording and video production.

A Boosted crowdfunding campaign is now live to fund the music video for lead single ‘I Roll With the Divine’. Support the campaign here. Every contribution brings the next chapter of this kaupapa closer to life.

Rebecca holds resident artist status at Toi Auaha — the creative hub owned and operated by Toi Ōtautahi — a significant recognition of her place within Ōtautahi's arts community. Through Toi Ōtautahi she completed two year-long mentorships: one with internationally respected producer Greg Haver, and one with Henare Kaa — both resulting in new songs that form part of her upcoming album. The live debuts of both tracks will take place at the showcase.

Rooted in place, story, and community, Rebecca Robin's music moves between English and te reo Māori, weaving personal narrative with wider social meaning. This showcase is a rare opportunity to hear both established songs and new work in an intimate setting ahead of release.

Opening the evening are special guests Chris Nola and Shelley Wright Music — both members of the iconic Christchurch all-female band INLIMBO, who toured extensively across Aotearoa in the 1990s. Their presence makes this a night rooted in the deep history of Ōtautahi's live music scene.
