Triggar Happy Releases New Single ‘Sundown’

Triggar Happy (Regan Tucker) is living proof that reinvention is real. Raised in Ōtorohanga, Waikato, he spent years deep in the farming world – running six farms, building a life from the ground up, and eventually losing everything. Instead of staying down, he cashed it all in, walked away from the land, and bet everything on music.

Following the success of his single ‘Zombies’ released in February that saw radio play on iconic New Zealand rock radio station The Rock, Triggar’s momentum has only continued to build. In recent weeks he’s landed interviews across the New Zealand Herald, iHeartCountry and The Rock, he released anthem ‘Cowboy Power Rock’ and played a near sold-out, buzzing Auckland show at Big Fan to a receptive crowd of friends, family, and fans both new and old.

Today, Triggar releases his newest single ‘Sundown’ – a catchy, upbeat anthem made for chasing the last light of the day. Equal parts pop-country charm and signature Triggar twang, it’s the kind of song that feels like riding down the coast or heading home across the farm as the sun drops low.

More than just a feel-good track, ‘Sundown’ shines a light on Triggar’s singer-songwriter side, showing a different shade of his sound after previous releases leaned harder into distorted guitars and rock energy. The song centres around his relationship with his wife Cherie, celebrating togetherness, comfort, and the kind of love that holds steady through every reinvention. With lyrics like “look how far we’ve come my girl”, Triggar reflects on their journey together – from his life on the land to the leap into music, and the family they’ve built along the way with their two young kids.

Following a rapid rise where his two albums Talk Is Cheap and Love Loyalty Respect both hit #1 on the Top 20 Aotearoa Album Charts for multiple weeks, Triggar Happy also took out Impact Artist of the Year at the 2025 Independent Music Awards, cementing his status as one of Aotearoa’s most exciting and unpredictable new voices. He’s recently amassed over 1.2 million impressions on his social media content in the last 30 days – proving he is well and truly a hot topic right now.

‘Sundown’ is the latest taste of a brand new deluxe album, set to roll out across the first half of 2026 and currently slated for completion in mid-October.

Triggar’s sound is a heady mix of raw alt-rock energy, bluesy swagger, and soul-tinged vocals reminiscent of Teddy Swims, Jelly Roll, and Jimmy Barnes – built on gritty hooks, undeniable melodies, and lyrics that hit with straight-up honesty. With ‘Sundown’, he proves he can just as easily slip into a brighter pop-country lane, without losing the heart and grit that’s become his trademark.

A natural showman and storyteller, Triggar Happy’s music mirrors his magnetic, larger-than-life personality: part outlaw, part entertainer, part working-class poet – capable of turning any room into a raucous celebration of music, life, and irrepressible character.

When asked about the release of ‘Sundown’, Triggar says:

‘Sundown’ is a feel-good song about Cherie and I. It’s about having your comfort person there at the end of the day – kicking off your boots, soaking it all in, and thinking, look how far we’ve come.

With nothing manufactured about him, Triggar Happy is carving out his own lane in Aotearoa’s country-rock landscape – fearless, genuine, and fuelled by real-life experience. ‘Sundown’ is another reminder that his music doesn’t come from chasing trends, but from chasing something far more powerful: connection, freedom, and the people who’ve been there through it all.
