UNCLES release their debut single 'TUKUA'

UNCLES — the te reo rap supergroup made up of Rei, Swizl Jager, and Producer/DJ Plastic Pounamu — announce their debut single 'TUKUA,' a high-energy Aotearoa Garage track that blends bass-driven production with kaupapa Mäori lyricism.

Produced by Plastic Pounamu, 'TUKUA' is a club-ready anthem with a deeper message at its core. Built around the central phrase "tukua rä ö herehere" (release your chains), the waiata speaks to freeing the mind from the lingering impacts of colonisation — encouraging listeners to let go of limiting beliefs and step into their rangatiratanga.

Driven by rolling UKG drums, heavy low-end, and sharp reo rua flows, TUKUA brings a fresh sound to Aotearoa's electronic and hip hop landscape. Rei and Swizl Jager's dynamic vocal delivery balances cultural depth with dancefloor energy, making the track equally suited to late-night sets and daytime radio.

With strong ties to the Aotearoa bass scene and a proven track record across streaming, radio, and live performance, UNCLES are primed to make an impact. Plastic Pounamu's reputation within the DJ community ensures the track will move through clubs nationwide, while the group's combined audience positions TUKUA for strong digital engagement.

Mixed and mastered by NZ Electronic pioneer Chris Chetland, TUKUA sits comfortably alongside the growing wave of reo Mäori electronic music, offering something both distinctly local and globally relevant.

UNCLES are bringing their festival ready beats to the world, and there's nothing that noone can do to stop them. Tell your aunty about them. But no need, because chances are, she already knows.. And if the music isn't big, heavy and getting people dancing, then it ain't UNCLES. Reo rua raps, hiko beats, big uncle energy. What could go wrong..
